When ChatGPT recommends your competitor

Why one firm appears in an AI answer, what actually changes that answer, and where law firms should focus first.

Why the assistant picks one firm over another

AI search tools assemble answers from sources they consider clear, relevant, and credible. A familiar brand helps, but a focused page that answers the exact question often matters more than a broad page filled with general claims.

The useful question is not whether your competitor is better at marketing. It is which source gave the assistant the clearest evidence for this particular answer.

What actually moves the answer

Start with the source page. Make the answer explicit, current, and easy to quote. Add genuine supporting detail, keep attorney and firm information consistent, and revisit the result over several runs instead of reacting to a single variable response.

Associate is designed around that slower, evidence-led loop: monitor the answer, compare the cited sources, prepare a conservative improvement, and let the firm approve it.
